running4renewables secures support
vento ludens and Shepherd and Wedderburn help raise funds for renewable energy in Africa in aid of the Koru Foundation.
The Scottish based wind farm developer vento ludens Ltd have recently announced that they will be the lead supporter for the exciting new initiative running4renewables. The initiative aims to recruit volunteers from the renewables industry to raise funds by taking part in running events throughout the UK. The main events, which running4renewables teams will participate in are: the Edinburgh Marathon, Scottish Half-Marathon and Hairy Haggis Relay Race, which all take place on 23rd May 2010 in Edinburgh.
Spurred on by the energy and enthusiasm of Daniel Rafferty, the project developer who thought up the initiative, a number of vento ludens staff have been inspired to join in the fun and participate in various running events for the cause.
Jay Butler, Project Director for vento ludens said; “the concept of running4renewables is creative, imaginative and delightfully simple. The initiative has the potential to attract an enormous following and I feel certain that 2010 will be the start of an exceedingly popular annual event. vento ludens is tremendously proud to be the lead supporter for this inspirational initiative – long may it last”.
Shepherd and Wedderburn is also backing the event as a supplementary supporter and plans to enter two teams for the 'Hairy Haggis' Relay event. "running4renewables is a great cause for us to support. With our extensive work in the renewables industry we can appreciate the benefits that sustainable energy can bring to those communities assisted by the Koru Foundation,” said James Saunders, Head of the Energy & Utilities Group at Shepherd and Wedderburn.
The short term goal of running4renewables is to raise £35,000 for the Koru Foundation’s renewable energy programme in Africa. The funds will help bring clean energy to poor communities across the region, enabling people to pump clean water, cook food, power homes, schools, health centres and run small business.
The Koru Foundation is very grateful to both vento ludens Ltd and Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP for their support which will contribute towards the success of the running4renewables initiative.
