Carbon Compensation

What is carbon compensation?

Carbon Compensation is an alternative to traditional carbon offsetting initiatives developed by the Koru Foundation. The scheme is a positive way for individuals and companies who accept their activities contribute to climate change and wish to address the impact of their actions, to invest in a poverty reduction project in a country vulnerable to the effects of climate change

Why carbon compensation?

Many people are uncomfortable with the concept of carbon offsettting but accept that their activities contribute to climate change and wish to address the impact of their actions.

Carbon compensation successfully addresses many of the concerns about the effectiveness of voluntary carbon trading schemes in delivering real and sustainable development benefits .

Unlike many traditional offsetting schemes, we guarantee that 100% of your money will go directly to our projects which help communities affected by climate change and we will provide you with regular progress reports providing reassurance the the money is making a real difference.

How does carbon compensation work?

By compensating for your carbon emissions by funding a Koru Foundation project you will help a community to develop in a sustainable way and improve their access to health, education and employment opportunities. Koru Foundation projects replace dirty and unhealthy traditional fuels such as paraffin and wood with low carbon energy systems which are better for both the environment and people's health.

What does carbon compensation cost?

Carbon compensation is based on the shadow price of carbon, which is the estimated value of the damage caused by one tonne of carbon dioxide, calculated independantly by the UK government.

Two return flights from London to New York could buy an energy efficiency kit to provide light for a household from a rechargable battery.

The average annual use of a company car (30,000-40,000miles) could buy a 200W wind turbine to provide electricity for a household.

The average annual energy consumption of a small business could buy a 55kW micro hydro power system to provide electricity for an entire community
